By Friday...
Signs of Hurricane Harvey made their way into Houston and our area.
We spent the weekend riding out the rain. The Hurricane hit over RockPort but the rains we received were torrential. At our home, our gauge, recorded 33 3/4 inches of rain between Friday around 2pm (only getting about 2-3 inches Friday) and Tuesday. With the majority of the rain falling Saturday and Sunday. We were so very blessed to stay dry but so many friends were displaced and taken out of their homes in boats. Jerry and Glenda took on 2-3 feet of water in their home and still, homes are flooded. School was cancelled for a week and we are waiting to hear if it will be cancelled longer. So many families were caught in this storm!!!!
Since the storm hit Zak has been out helping. He's volunteered every day. With the boys, its not that easy for me. We were able to clean out and donate clothes but that just didn't feel like enough. So, today we woke up bright and early and headed to the store to get food to share. (We've tried days prior but the stores have been empty!) When we got home, Amber and I made sandwiches for Jerry and Glenda's crew and 50 hot dogs to pass out in surrounding neighborhoods. Once we got over to the area, the damage was worse than I could have imagined. Every single house was damaged. People had their whole lives in the front yards. There were tons of people out working. At first, handing out hot dogs went slow but it picked up quickly! Most people were appreciative and so thankful. It wasn't much but it felt good to give back a little. And, it showed the boys(and me too) how truly blessed we are!
After passing out the hotdogs, we headed to my aunt and uncles. I cried when we walked in . It was heart breaking. The boys and I spent the afternoon there with Zak , dad, Jerry and Bj trying to help as much as we could.
