NYC-Happy Birthday to ME!

What an amazing long weekend Zak put together for me. I didn’t want to celebrate this birthday but I’m sure glad he did! A long weekend away in the heart of New York City, a place where neither of us have ever been. It was so much fun to explore and see everything for the first time together.
What are the odds but we ran into a childhood friend of Zaks on the plane who was staying just a few blocks from us. (For any of you who know Zak, you know this is a regular thing.) It was great because we were able to split an Uber and he told us about some places we couldn’t miss on our trip. After waiting for an Uber for an hour at the airport, we got to our hotel after a 1 hour 15 min drive (it was just under 7 miles from the airport to our hotel-traffic-oh my heavens!). Our hotel was a modern, quirky, tiny, fun hotel a couple blocks from Times Square where we had to be taught how to get up to our room (or anywhere in the hotel) via elevator. In our short time there we saw so much. Time Sqare, Rockefeller Center, the Christmas tree, we saw the Studio where The Today Show is filmed and walked through the most crowded toy store in the world – FAO Schwartz. We had pizza multiple times and stopped for coffee all over town. We enjoyed breakfast at a quaint little French restaurant in a beautiful neighborhood lined with brownstones. We braved the Subway where we may or may not have got on the wrong train. We visited the 911 memorial and museum where I was overwhelmed with emotion. It was so well put together and such a beautiful tribute. We saw the Statue of Liberty from Battery Park and had the most delicious pasta at Eataly a big Italian market. We hung out at our hotel and tried fun drinks. We even tried to go to the 18th floor club/bar. It was like Fort Knoxs getting in and we quickly found it wasn’t our thing, so we came right back down. We went to the shops at Bryant Park and walked through Central Park, visited The Plaza Hotel and even went in Trump Towers so we could send Chase a picture. We saw the Book of Mormon on Broadway, went to Grand Central Station and had a drink at The Campbell Bar. We ate, and walked (almost 28 miles in our 4 short days-only two of which were full days) and talked.
Thank you Zak for this special trip. I love you and I loved our time together.
