It's amazing, from day to day, how things can change. We are entering into a new phase here in the Day household...the "terrible twos". We have our good moments and our bad moments. I thought I'd share some of the good along with a little of the bad.
"Follows directions!" WHAT? YEAH! I was so proud I thought I'd burst. I know he's generally a really good kid at home (besides the terrible two fits) who listens and follows directions (as much as a two year old can) but I always wonder exactly how well behaved he is outside of being with me. He left class happy as could be talking about "cool" and his "mapmap". I knew it had been a really good day for him. As we walked out the door we saw a little boy from his class sitting on the bench. He started to run to Colton screaming "HI!". I called after Colton, trying to get him to say hello. The little boys mom said, "Oh this is Colton!?! I've heard so much about him. Juliane is always talking about his friend Colton." Again, I felt a huge twinge of pride. I'm not exactly sure why? Maybe it's because Colton isn't able, yet, to come home and tell me about his friends. To hear that this little boy talks to his mommy about my son and calls him his friend just melted my heart. School has been so good for him and he really enjoys it so much.
On Wednesday, we spent the morning hanging out with Nanny. She's leaving in a couple days for England so she had a few last minute gifts she had to buy. We spent the morning at the Outlet Mall (mostly in Carters) and headed to Chilies for lunch. I hadn't packed Colton a lunch so I let him have a special snack of chips and pita bread for lunch. We ordered his snack early and he started eating right away. He did great for the first 20 minutes but our food was super slow to come out. He started to get restless and was sleepy. He had enjoyed his chips and bread and was ready to go home. The problem was that our meals hadn't even come out yet. By the time my sandwich came out Colton was in quite a state. He was hitting and laughing at me and trying to crawl over the table. I was mortified, hungry, worn out and at my wits end. There was no hope by this point since my mom hadn't even gotten her lunch. (The service was very slow.) There was just no way we were going to be able to stay and enjoy our food and I didn't want Colton to disrupt everyone around us so I did something I never thought I'd actually do. I got our food to-go and we left! Unfortunately, this is exactly what Colton wanted. He was happy to leave. He, however, was not happy at all to go straight to bed when we got home. We are getting into the "terrible twos" and I can see just how much fun they are going to be!
Thursday, was a school day for us. After the crazy meltdown the day before and lots of tears at drop off the days prior I was worried about how our day would go. Much to my surprise, Colton wore his backpack down the hall to his class (for the first time) and walked straight into class like he owned the place; no tears and no clinging to mommy. Since I work just down the hall I always try to avoid seeing him during the day. I know it just gets him upset and disrupts his routine. Midway through the day I accidentally made eye contact with him while I was walking down the hall. He just looked at me, no tears, no running to the door and carried on playing. I was excited but wondered if he started to cry after I walked away. At pick up Ms. Leslie told me he didn't cry all day and gave me this note. (I have no clue whats going in with blogger but it kept turning this picture the wrong was. sorry!)

Thursday was such a proud day for me, when just the day before we had such a challenging and embarrassing moment. I guess that's how God works. He sends you the bad with the good just to keep you on your toes. I'll take them all because good or bad they are memories I won't soon forget!
